Supporting the science
The British Skin Foundation raises money to fund research into all skin diseases, including skin cancer.
In 2019, researchers at Newcastle University developed a pioneering melanoma test which predicts whether an early melanoma is likely to spread or return.
The A-STAR register has been set up by Kings College London to help the fight against eczema. Researchers at Ulster University are looking into new approaches to combat antibiotic-resistant acne. St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London is investigating whether psoriasis patients are predisposed to heart disease, strokes, obesity and depression.
Our research ranges from finding out why skin cancers spread, to prevention of skin cancers by using better sunscreens. Our work into the role of bacteria in leg ulcers will not only help relieve suffering of patients, but also look to lighten the burden on the NHS.
